LEWISTON — The YWCA Central Maine has announced two new members to the board of directors: Tonya Bailey-Curry and Susan Brown.

Bailey-Curry holds a master’s in social work from the University of Southern Maine. She received her BA in social and behavioral science from the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College, where she graduated summa cum laude. She serves as director of Family and Peer Programs at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Maine. In 2015 she received the Maine Suicide Prevention Caring about Lives in Maine Award.

Bailey-Curry is a native of Androscoggin County, where she resides with her husband. They have five sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, and a puppy named Chase. She is a YWCA Afterschool Program parent. Bailey-Curry can often be found engaging in the community as she places a significant value in connecting with others.

Brown is a registered nurse living in Auburn. She was born in Elmira, New York, and grew up on Grand Island. She graduated from Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing in 1976 and continued her studies at SUNY, Buffalo. She worked for 18 years at Buffalo General in acute care settings.

Brown’s community-based nursing work includes positions as a nurse assessor for an Alzheimer’s respite program, a school nurse for developmentally challenged students, and a home health nurse. She was the first director of the Edward Little High School School-based Health Center. Most recently, she worked at St. Mary’s in her husband’s practice. She retired from nursing in May 2013.

Brown has served on the board of directors for The Public Theatre. She is on the advisory committee member for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Nutrition Center and in Auburn and Lewiston schools.

Brown enjoys sewing, gardening, traveling, and doing yoga. She loves to spend time with her three adult children, three grandchildren and her husband.
