AUGUSTA — The Maine Emergency Management Agency has planned a Community Cybersecurity Exercise Planning program on Sept. 7 and 8.

This two-day course provides an in-depth understanding of the nature and reach of information technology to prepare exercise planners to incorporate cyberattacks and incidents into their programs. Participants will explore cyber-related exercise objectives, players, scenarios and injects, challenges of developing exercises and examine the importance of exercises in building the community’s overall cybersecurity posture.

This course begins with a four-hour introduction in the concepts related to community cybersecurity. Participants will examine the different types of cyberattacks, how communities are vulnerable to cyberattacks and incidents and what types of organizations are most likely to be targeted. This course will also introduce the participants to the Community Cyber Security Maturity Model and how to use the model to build a community cybersecurity program and their cyber resilience.

Eligible participants include part- and full-time emergency management and response personnel who currently work/are assigned in an exercise planning/execution role at the state, local, tribal or DOD installation level.

The course will be held in the MEMA Emergency Operations Center at 45 Commerce Drive off Route 27 in North Augusta. Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Lunch and breaks will be provided. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student.
