SOUTH PARIS – Robert E. Poliquin Sr. passed away on Saturday, July 22, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

Retired Gunnery Sgt. Poliquin served 23 years in the U.S. Marine Corps stateside and in posts overseas, including Vietnam, Okinawa and Puerto Rico.

Upon retirement, Poliquin, along with his wife, Betty, settled in Lewiston, where they raised their three children, Deborah, Robert Junior and Boots.

“Gunny,” as he was known to all, resided at the Veterans’ Home for the past eight years and is survived by his three children, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His wife, Betty, predeceased him in 2009.

He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Maine and New Hampshire woods. Poliquin sincerely embraced and loved the family he made among the staff and residents of the Maine Veterans’ Home and will remain eternally grateful for their dedicated support, kindness and friendship. Gunny will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was 83 years old.
