LEWISTON — Megan Parks, the current at-large representative serving the Lewiston School Committee, is announcing her intention to run for re-election in November.

“Coming into this role as a parent and community member with a limited history of civic involvement, there was a learning curve that I wasn’t fully prepared for,” Parks said in a written statement.

“I am in my second year of my first term and in many ways, I feel like I am just now figuring out how I can best serve the community in this capacity,” she said in the statement. “Now that I have found that firm footing, I am eagerly looking forward to a second term and to everything I’ll be able to accomplish alongside my fellow board members.”

Parks, a graduate of Lewiston High School, is employed as a social worker. She serves on the Jubilee Center board of directors and actively volunteers with other local nonprofit groups.

She also serves on the district’s Proficiency Based Learning Committee and is the chairwoman of the district’s Dropout Prevention Committee.

Prior to her election, Parks had served on Lewiston Public School’s Redistricting Committee, which was tasked with deciding the outcome of the deteriorating Longley and Martel schools.

According to Parks, she is passionate about the greatness of the Lewiston community and its residents and approaches every situation with integrity, dedication and a genuine interest in the well-being of all interested parties.

Parks also said in her statement that she is a fierce advocate for autonomy for teachers and students, and aims to provide a voice for parents and taxpayers at every opportunity available.

Parks said she has worked hard to gain the respect of her fellow board members and city councilors, building functional working relationships citywide.

Parks lives in Ward 2 with her husband and two children and is currently completing a graduate school program in psychology, with an implied focus on restorative justice practices.
