CBS news executive and newsman Walter Cronkite, who is seen Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 13 on his award-winning half-hour news show, will visit the Lewiston-Auburn area in September to get the 1967 Lewiston-Auburn United Fund campaign off to a swinging start. Cronkite will be the headliner at the U.F. special program at The Cinema at Northwood Park Sept. 9, attending a reception, chatting with those on hand, and addressing the gathering briefly. Chairman of Special Events Raymond Geiger said Cronkite accepted the invitation, stating he was looking forward to the Maine visit, and enjoying “lobster for breakfast, dinner and supper.” He may stay in the area a few days.

An apparently dissatisfied voter expressed his or her unhappiness Thursday night by throwing a brick through the front window of the Lewiston office of U.S. Sen. William S. Cohen, R-Maine. “It’s certainly an odd form of political expression,” said Cohen’s Lewiston representative Eric Howes. This is the second time this year that a disgruntled voter may have sent a message in this form to Cohen, according to Howes. This time, however, a note was tied to the brick. The message read “Dif is for Iraq,” said Sgt. Anthony Vitale of the Lewiston Police Department.
