I thank the Sun Journal for the editorial (July 30) regarding the poorly planned crossing at the Oxford Casino.

Ronnie Nobrega was my cousin. We grew up together in a close-knit family, separated by three houses in Greenville, Rhode Island. He was a father of two; one, a son, Christopher, who loved him dearly, and his daughter, Jess, who was just married within the past month.

I share this because, as he wasn’t a local, some may pass off the tragedy of his death as some “out of towner” who got himself killed. That is not the case. He had been travelling to Oxford for work for years.

He was a father, a son, an uncle and a friend. The editorial is important in that it points out the dangers of that crossing.

We are suffering here in Rhode Island, and we pray that nobody else will have to go through the same.

I hope that Sun Journal staff will continue pushing local officials to make the necessary changes. Tragedy has struck. It will strike again if lessons are not learned.

Ryan Connole, Greenville, Rhode Island
