SCARBOROUGH (AP) — Police in Maine say a man has been hospitalized after driving through a busy intersection and crashing into gas pumps.

The Portland Press Herald reports the crash occurred in Scarborough around 6 p.m. Thursday. Scarborough police Sgt. Steve Thibodeau says a witness told police the driver of pickup truck passed out before accelerating through an intersection at U.S. Route 1 and state Route 114. Police say the truck slammed into a row of gas pumps at a Citgo station, knocking over a support pillar.

The driver of the truck was treated for a broken arm. A boy who was in the truck at the time of the crash was treated for minor injuries.

Thibodeau says a quick-acting employee turned off the gas pumps, minimizing the damage in the crash.
