PARIS — An Oxford woman connected to a Harrison teen’s fatal heroin overdose in 2015 has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and violating conditions of her release.

Judge Charles Dow sentenced Deanna Marshall, 59, to 24 hours in jail and a $400 fine Wednesday in Oxford County Superior Court.

Marshall was released after being given credit for time served.

According to an affidavit by Norway Police Officer Jeff Campbell, on Aug. 8, he, State Police Troop B Detective Adam Fillebrown and Oxford Police Officer Zane Loper attempted to locate Marshall and her daughter Kendra Talbot for a bail compliance check. Marshall was found with a pill bottle with 13 suboxone strips and one partial strip.

Marshall initially said she had a prescription for the suboxone, which is used to treat pain and opioid addiction, but later admitted that she purchased it illegally.

The second charge is because Marshall failed to appear in court in Portland on a criminal summons charging she struck a Maine State Police cruiser parked on the turnpike in Gray in July 2016. Marshall was summonsed on charges of reckless conduct, operating under the influence, aggravated criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.

Marshall is connected to the overdose death of Cassidy Patten, 18, of Harrison who died of a heroin overdose in September 2015. Patten had been at a party at Marshall’s apartment on Walker Avenue in Norway and, when Patten became ill, Marshall drove her to Central Maine Medical Center and left her outside. Patten died at the hospital.

Patten’s parents have filed suit against Marshall in Oxford County Superior Court, claiming wrongful death.

Marshall was not charged with a crime, but Patten’s parents said that her decision not to stop at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, a four-minute drive from the apartment, and instead proceed to Lewiston, 40 minutes away, cost Patten her life.
