PARIS — Professor Paddy-Whack is performing a benefit show, “This Land is Your Land,” for the Deering Memorial Community Center at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24.
Rick Adam, aka Professor Paddy-Whack, using instruments built out of tin cans, a washboard, bells, whistles and a cigar box, will lead sing-a-longs and tell tall-tales with hand shadows, exploring the songs workers sang as they built America. In recognition of its 200th anniversary, puppetry and hand shadows will tell of the construction of the Erie Canal.
Being held in the former sanctuary of Deering, the show is for all ages and open to everyone. Donations toward the operating expenses of the Deering Memorial Community Center would be greatly appreciated. The former church was donated to the Paris Public Library in January 2017 to develop as a community center for the Oxford Hills area.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
