LEWISTON — Two women were hurt and a pair of children were being tended to after cars collided head-on Friday at Montello and College streets.
One woman was freed from a gray Suzuki after the four-door came to rest in the middle of the intersection following the 5:30 p.m. wreck.
Fire crews also extricated a woman from a black Hyundai with a mangled front end after that car came to rest on the short strip of Montello Street between Fair and College streets.
Both women were conscious and alert as rescue crews freed them from the wreckage. Each was taken to a Lewiston hospital.
Paramedics also tended to a pair of children at the scene, although neither child appeared to be hurt.
A pair of motorists stopped at the scene of the crash to help the victims while awaiting rescue crews. Witnesses in the area reported they had not seen the crash occur, but came rushing to the scene after hearing a thud and the sounds of crushing metal and breaking glass.
Police and fire crews blocked off the busy intersection as the victims were treated and clean-up began.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
