WILTON — Town Manager Rhonda Irish told selectpersons Tuesday that two new businesses have recently moved into town.
Benjamin, Leo & Associates, an accounting and business management firm, has moved into the Bass Wilson building on Main Street, she said.
Origin LLC, now based in Farmington, has taken space at Western Maine Development on the Weld Road for storage for now and possible future manufacturing, Charles Lavin, code enforcement officer, said. The business manufactures jiujitsu and combat sports apparel.
Work on the Forster Mill site is moving slowly, Irish said. The comment period has ended and Ransom Environmental Consultants is working on a design for asbestos removal and partial demolition.
The design has to be approved by the Department of Environmental Protection and is expected in September. The work is expected to go out to bid in October, she said.
The project has to follow federal rules because of federal funding provided.
In other news, a proposed food sovereignty ordinance for Wilton has been put on hold, likely until after October. The governor has asked the state Legislature to review the laws at the end of October, Irish said. Work on ordinance will wait for the update.
In other business, selectpersons agreed to hold four public hearings and a special town meeting at their next meeting on Sept. 19.
Two of the hearings are on accepting a Community Development Block Grant for Carrier Welding and for a Facade grant. The other two concern General Assistance updates and three junkyard renewals.
A special town meeting is required for acceptance of the CDBG grant for Carrier Welding and the town facade grant.
In June, voters authorized helping Nathan Carrier apply for a $240,000 CDBG grant to help purchase more equipment and provide operating capital for Carrier Welding and Fabrication on Depot Street.
The town application for a $150,000 CDBG facade grant for downtown business improvements has also been approved.
The public hearings and voter approval are required.
