LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, is looking for persons living with dementia to participate in the Legacy Storytellers program. Through the Maine Chapter’s Legacy Storytellers Program, college students pursuing careers in health care interview and write the life stories of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease, Alzheimer’s-related dementias or memory challenges.
“In sharing their story, program participants help these college students become health care professionals who have a better understanding of Alzheimer’s disease,” stated Mark Pechenik, program coordinator. “In a very real sense, they become teachers who inspire students to learn more about dementia.”
Participation in the free, six-session program is private and confidential. Pre-screening may be required to determine if the program is appropriate for program applicants. Care partners are also invited to participate.
Learn more by attending the Legacy Storytellers information session from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road. Pre-registration is recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome.
