TURNER — Because this year’s July 3rd fireworks program was such a success, organizer Rachel Pack has decided to continue the event next year and is announcing upcoming fundraisers.

A Barbecue and Chili Throw Down will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Boofy Quimby Memorial Center. People from all over are encouraged to enter their barbecued brisket, pulled pork and chili and compete against each other. Doors will open at noon.

Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson, Chief Deputy Bill Gagne and Communications Director Martin Fournier will judge entries at 1 p.m.. There will be trophies for first place in each category. A Peoples Choice Award will also be given out.

There will be a photo op area with different props as well as a baked goods sale table.

There will be a $5 fee at the door for everyone to attend the event, which includes sampling of all entries, side dishes and drinks.

In October, a paint party will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Ricker Hill Tasting Room.

All proceeds will go to the fireworks fund.
