ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Barbara Ellingwood, 93, died on Sept. 19, 2017 in Englewood, Fla.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1923 to Chester and Marjorie Cummings of Hanover. She attended local schools — No. Yarmouth Academy for two years, and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel in 1940.
She worked in the office of the Rumford Falls Power Co. for several years. Barbara married Freeman Ellingwood in May, 1940. He died in March 2006.
Mrs. Ellingwood was very active in community work and the Rumford Point Congregational Church. She and her husband served as 4-H Club leaders for many years.
She served as town treasurer, tax collector and town clerk for Hanover for several years. The couple owned and operated a craft shop in Hanover several years before selling their home and moving to Englewood, Fla. in 1985.
She was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church and served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women’s Group for two terms. She also worked as a home health aide and homemaker companion in the Englewood – Venice area for many years.
She is survived by two sons, John and wife, Gloria of Waterboro, and Thomas and wife, Linda of Rumford; a sister, Ann of Kennebunk; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
