CANTON — Albert E. Heywood 92, of Lewiston, went to be with his lord and savior on Monday, Sept. 18. He was born in Sabattus on May 17, 1925, the son of Albert and Lilliann (Drinkwater) Heywood, and he attended Sabattus schools. Albert served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a gunner’s mate on troop carriers and fuel tankers crossing the Atlantic. He was employed in the woodworking industry for 30 years as a cabinet maker.
Albert was married to Lorraine (Lapoint) for over 50 years until she passed in 2005. They had four children, Shirline Heywood of Auburn, Debra Giles of Lewiston, Mark Heywood of Mechanic Falls and John Heywood of Lewiston. Also left behind are his grandchildren, Jason and Justin Heywood of Lewiston, Scott and Chris Giles of Lewiston, Kristi Turner and Kelly Mendenhall of Arizona and Ann Walsh of Lewiston; and a sister, Wilma Holmes. Albert was predeceased by a son, Larry Heywood of Glenburn, who passed on June 10, 2017.
