Saturday and Sunday The Sun gave the World Series games play-by-play, hot off the wire, both over the megaphone and on the bulletin. This same excellent free service will be given daily during the entire series in Chicago and New York. The Associated Press wire direct from the ball ground is close to the front windows of The Sun building. Every ball, strike, hit, run, play, etc., is received instantly over this wire and given out on the megaphone to the crowd in front of the office. Bulletins are posted so that those who come late can learn the progress of the game. You are invited to make use of this free service and follow the game almost as closely as though you had a near view of it on the grounds.

(Photo Caption) The Civil War monument on the Village Common at Mechanic Falls has had an added decoration for the past few weeks. Someone, either with lucky marksmanship or the agility of a monkey, placed a straw hat on the head of the Union soldier which surmounts the monument. Probably protection against recent early fall weather.

The covering of the Pettengill Park ice rink is now scheduled to be completed by Dec. 15, six weeks behind schedule, but officials believe it can still have a profitable first year. Bid documents for the city-owned rink are being distributed and will be opened by Oct. 16, said Norris Ingersoll, superintendent of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department. The large number of decisions to be made and problems in finishing the technical drawings and specifications by the architect slowed down the process, he said. The city of Auburn has issued a $400,000 bond, on behalf of the Auburn Youth Hockey Association, to pay for the metal-fabricated building measuring 20 feet tall, 220 feet long and 120 feet wide to cover the rink.
