Monday night will mark the opening of the Lewiston Memorial Armory as the new “Teen Center” for Lewiston students, it was reported by Lewiston Recreation Director Frank Torrey. The facility will be available to students Monday through Saturday, each week, from 6 to 9 p.m. The armory will be open to the youngsters on days when it is not booked for other specific programs. The armory program is open to students in the seventh grade, and above. The work was done as part of a $1,000 appropriation in the park budget for improvements to public parks. Earlier this year, the PWD installed new stairs at the Walnut Street entrance to the park. The game room includes pool tables, bumper pool tables, and table tennis. A canteen will be available with small tables for card playing, cribbage, and other small games. A juke box also will be available for use. The gymnasium will be available for informal basketball play, and sneakers must be worn to use the gym.
