AUBURN — Steven J. Hish, 63, of Jay, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Hospice House in Auburn. He was born in Belleville, Ill., on Oct. 12, 1953. He was the son of Joseph and Laverna nee Horschmann-Hish. He attended Okawville High School, Year of 1972, and attended college at the University of Maine in Augusta and obtained his associate degree in sociology. He joined the U.S. Army on July 24, 1973, as a tank driver and was stationed in Germany on the Berlin Wall until his discharge in 1976. After his discharge, he worked multiple jobs and ended his work career at the Looking Ahead Clubhouse in Lewiston. He was an avid folk music and Chicago Bears fan. Steve is survived by his son, Tyler Hish, of Old Town; a daughter, Jennifer Freeman, of Belton, Mo.; brothers, Joseph Hish IV of Nashville, Ill., Gregory Hish of Plainfield, Ill. and Michael Hish of Nashville, Ill.; and a sister, Wendie Bening-Hish, of Ballwin, Mo.
