I have watched all of the debates and read all of the articles concerning the proposed consolidation of Lewiston and Auburn. I still do not understand the urgency behind this project. Where did all of the money and screaming headlines come from?

Just a few short months ago, nobody was talking about the consolidation (merger) of the two cities. I am not aware of anyone who was going around saying that it was really important that the two cities merge into one bigger government. Is there some other agenda behind this referendum?

I am unaware of any significant grassroots call for consolidation from the general public, and I feel it is unnecessary, uncalled for and totally ridiculous.

I don’t believe for one minute that there will be any savings to be had with any merger. I hope residents of both cities will vote “no” against consolidation.
