DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to take a moment to thank the many volunteers, sponsors, those who donated auction items and attendees who made the 14th annual Autumn Night Out the most successful fundraiser in the history of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

Thanks to the generosity of many, more than $100,000 was raised. While most of the funds will support the AHCH hospice program, nearly $16,000 was raised for the newly launched Life Happens Fund to help any AHCH patient with needs that cannot be met elsewhere.

As the only independent nonprofit home care and hospice agency in Maine, AHCH relies on events like these to continue to meet its mission of not turning away anyone who needs services and cannot pay for them.

I appreciate the efforts of all who played a part in making this evening fun and successful.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing today in hopes of answering “a very big request” from Heidi in Dryden. (Sun Spots, Monday, Oct. 23). Although the Woman’s Literary Union, housed at 19 Elm St. in Auburn, is not a doll museum, the Foss Mansion could serve as an opportunity for Heidi to showcase her doll collection during the months of November and December. Because the WLU is a volunteer organization, we would need to rely on times the house is open for our programs, activities, and special events to display her collection.

I think we are a good match as we are now celebrating the 100th anniversary of the mansion (built in 1917) on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. with an event themed “100 Years in Fashion: Pick your favorite decade and dress accordingly.” This special doll collection with fashions from 1910-1990 is a perfect fit!

Heidi, please call our club president, Kathleen Lawrence, at 795-6134 to arrange a visit.

For those who want to attend our event, the evening will kick off a capital campaign to raise funds for the promotion and preservation of the Foss Mansion.
