Lewiston faces a problem in sewer construction which will soon call for the expenditure of thousands of dollars. The announcement, made by public works officials, is not in the nature of a sensation, as the need of sewer enlargement has become increasingly apparent during the past few years. During 1911 the department, of which A. C. Roy is superintendent, has accomplished much work, considerable of which was done under adverse weather conditions. At present, the main city sewer is a four-foot pipe emptying below the North Bridge. Another improvement contemplated is the extension of the Jepson Brook sewer to the river.

Kindergarten and first-graders from the Wales Elementary School listen as pediatric nurse Joanne Smith of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston explains the doll Ellie’s tonsil problems. The 29 youngsters toured the entire medical center, viewing X-rays of the body in radiology, seeing the red wagon that pulls young children into the operating room and visiting with OR and laboratory personnel. The trip was made in an effort to familiarize the children with a hospital and hopefully reduce their fears and apprehension should they ever have to be admitted.

Up With People will bring its multicultural musical extravaganza – featuring a cast of 145 young people from 15 countries – Mount Blue High School for performances on Nov. 11 and 12. The curtain will rise on the show, “Rhythm of the World,” at 8 p.m. each night. Ticket sales are going well, said Bob Bean of the Farmington Rotary Club, which is sponsoring the shows along with radio station WKTJ. Individual sales have been brisk, he said, and school groups have also expressed an interest. “I think we’re going to sell out,” Bean said. “Rhythm of the World” features contemporary international music. According to cast member, Tim Cray, the music runs the gamut from 1970s favorites to rock ‘n’ roll and rap, and songs are sung in several different languages.
