I was raised in Auburn and now live and work in Lewiston. I have been fortunate to have lived and traveled all over. Compared to other cities, the Twin Cities are not growing. In today’s world, that means Lewiston-Auburn is shrinking.

L-A’s population hasn’t changed since 1950. Folks leave for better opportunities. Lately, the two cities have been pulling apart, disbanding economic and arts collaborations, to name a couple. There is no guarantee that the two cities will work together, unless they are one.

This is a critical time. Residents have the opportunity to do something big — something that will propel the cities to prosperity.

The two cities’ identities won’t disappear. The high schools and landmarks will still exist. The area’s history will remain forever.

It will be hard; nothing worth doing is ever easy. Lewiston-Auburn has the hard-working, smart people to make a combined city great.

Residents should listen to both sides. Then, they need to think about making Lewiston-Auburn a place where everyone will want to be.
