AUGUSTA — Joan (Johanna) Chellis, 67, of Wayne, died Friday, Oct. 27, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
Joan was born in Augusta on Nov. 12, 1949, the daughter of Peter Lansing, MD, and Carolyn (Osgood) Lansing. She was a graduate of Cony High School and the University of Maine, Orono. Joan became an accomplished fabric artist, making quilts and wall-hangings, often times from her own painted fabrics. Her work has been shown all over New England and she was known for her strong sense of color. She was also an avid reader.
Joan was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill Chellis, of Wayne; her aunt, Ruth Gallagher, of Scarborough; and two cousins.
