American Legion Posts throughout Oxford County (District 5 of the Department of Maine) will commemorate Veterans Day 2017.
Of those announced, Rumford Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 is planning a bigger-than-ever luncheon event and inviting the entire community. The no-cost luncheon (donations acceptable) will be held at the Post, 184 Congress St., beginning at approximately noon, following the River Valley Veteran’s Day Ceremony. John D. Long Post 58, Buckfield, will participate in a Veterans Day program in Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited, light refreshments after.
Locke Mills Jackson-Silver Post 68, 595 Gore Road, will conduct its program begining at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, with patriotic music provided by the Mahoosuc Community Band. At 11 a.m. a bell will be rung 11 times as a memorial to the moment at which World War I ended: the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, in 1918. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
Swasey-Torrey Post 100 in Dixfield has announced that a church supper will be held for veterans from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Ellis’s Variety, 126 Weld St., with guest speaker.
Anderson-Staples Post 112 in Oxford will conduct its program at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in aris.
