AUBURN — Police charged a Lewiston man with elevated aggravated assault Friday morning after responding to a report of a fight in progress at a home on Washington Street.

Jason Wotton, 31, was arrested early Friday morning at the victim’s residence.

Officers arrived to find Leon Hunt, 37, seriously injured. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was listed in critical condition.

“It is unclear what led to the altercation,” Deputy Chief Jason Moen wrote in a news statement.

Police said Wotton had fled the scene and was found in Lewiston a short time later. He was taken to Androscoggin County Jail where he is being held without bail.

He has a history of assault and domestic violence assault.

Auburn police are being assisted by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit in the investigation.
