AUBURN — Gerard A. Tancrede, 64, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice House in Auburn following a brief illness.

“Gerry” was born in Lewiston on May 17, 1953, the son of Arthur and Lorraine (Lussier) Tancrede of Lewiston.

Gerry grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1971. Following school, he entered the U.S. Navy and worked as an aircraft engineer mechanic on the USS Independence from 1971 to 1975. He attended CMVTI and earned his electrical license. He worked many years for the state of Maine in a number of positions, and most recently as a boiler engineer at the Baxter School for the Deaf until his retirement in 2016.

Gerry enjoyed playing hockey in his youth and was passionate about canoeing and fishing the lakes and rivers of Maine and instilled his passion upon his nephews. Family was very important to him and he took his role as “Uncle Gerry” very seriously. He was known for giving the most unique gifts to his nieces and nephews that would instill a love of “science.”

He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Tancrede, of Auburn; three sisters, Claire Wright of Lincoln, R.I., Doris Arsenault and her husband, Raymond of Lewiston and Jacqueline “Jackie” James and her husband, Bobby of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Normand Tancrede and his wife, Lise of Monmouth; also surviving are nieces and nephews, Kristina, Stacy Lee, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Carrie, James, Lee, Tyler and Jacob; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Tancrede; and a nephew, Alex Sasseville.
