WINTHROP — The Bailey Public Library, 39 Bowdoin St., will host local writer Laurie Graves at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. Graves will give a talk and reading from her debut book, “Maya and the Book of Everything.” The event is part of the ongoing Lakes Region Forum sponsored by the Winthrop Public Library Foundation.
Graves was editor and co-publisher of the magazine “Wolf Moon Journal” for several years. Her essay, “On Being Franco-American,” is used in a French study class at the University of Maine. She was featured in the anthology “Heliotrope — French Heritage Women Create.”
Graves is a Kennebec County native and fifth-generation Mainer and Franco-American. She writes essays and fiction from her home in Winthrop on her blog “Notes from the Hinterland,” which features posts about nature, rural life, food, books and people.
In her new book, Graves explores themes of truth and knowledge in a fantasy setting, and delves into time travel, magic,and supernatural events. The book is the first in a new series, with the second slated to be released in late 2018.
