As the new Auburn charter provides for the election of women to the school board, a mass meeting has been arranged for Saturday at Library hall in Auburn, to consider the choice of a woman candidate. Several of the prominent citizens have been interviewed on the question, and the project seems in general to find favor. “I have always contended,” said A. W. Fowles, “that women are and should be interested in school matters, and should be represented on the school board of every well-regulated city.”

Maintenance of Leavitt Institute at Turner has become an issue which SAD 52 directors have decided must be dealt with fairly quickly. The Leavitt Institute building has a long history in the area and housed students until 1969. Before that time it served both students from the area and boarding students from other parts of the state. Several years ago Berry Hall, the building which served as a dormitory for the Institute, was demolished following a long process with citizens. At that time, the board of directors assured area residents they would do everything possible to renovate and preserve the Institute building. However, they did emphasize that the estimated $1 million needed for the building could not in all likelihood come from district funds.
