WINTHROP — Pastor Richard “Rick” Walter, 46, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Friday, Nov. 17, after a battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 30, 1971, the son of Tom Williams and Paula (Keiffer) Williams. His mother later married James Walter, who adopted Rick when he was a young boy.

On Dec. 22, 1995, he married his college sweetheart, Jennifer Nesbitt of Winthrop. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1989 to 1997. Rick received his B.S. from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Ind., and a master’s degree from Gulf Coast Bible Institute. For 15 years he has been the pastor of the Victory Baptist Church in Winthrop and two years prior was a pastor in Clarksville, Pa. He enjoyed being with his family and he loved spending time with the wonderful people of Victory Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed getting together with his friends in the ministry. He loved serving his Heavenly Father and leading others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, Jennifer of Winthrop, five sons; Ricky J. Walter, Jack R. Walter, Jonathan R. Walter, Joshua R. Walter, all of Winthrop, Ryan J. Walter of Vassalboro, and a daughter, Rachel J. Walter of Winthrop. He is also survived by his siblings, James H. Walter, Rick A. Walter, Rose Martino, Joshua J. Walter, Amanda Walter, Katie Walter, Melissa Walter, Cordell Walter, Kyliene Walter and Noah Walter all of Pennsylvania and Ohio.
