RUMFORD — Freda A. Lariviere, 89, of Rumford, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 24, at The Rumford Community Home, with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Roy) St. Peter in West Enfield, and was educated there as well. On Feb. 1, 1947, she married Allen Lariviere in Lincoln. Together they raised four children. Al and Freda moved to Rumford in 1955 to begin a new chapter in their lives. Al opened Al’s Sunoco Station and Marina, where Freda did the bookkeeping while taking care of their children and creating a warm and loving home. In addition, Al and Freda owned and operated Trail’s End Motel and Restaurant until his retirement.

Freda and Al wintered in Bartow, Fla., for years. They took many trips in their motor home and especially liked traveling to Alaska. It was not uncommon to get a call saying they were packing up and heading to northern Maine to hunt and/or fish.

Freda loved to cook and enjoyed family gatherings. She especially liked to cook desserts and was noted for her butter brickle bars and peanut butter pie. Freda also enjoyed crocheting and reading romance novels. She was an avid cribbage player, playing with family and friends.

After the death of their youngest son, David, from cancer, Freda and Allen worked with Rumford Hospital to create the Lariviere Oncology Unit in his memory. Today, this unit has helped many area residents get treatment without having to travel out of town.

Freda is survived by her children, Karen Boucher and husband, Wayne of Michigan, Philip and wife, Gloria (Sarle) Lariviere of New Hampshire, Suanne Fischer and husband, David of Lewiston; her sister, Louise McIntyre and her husband, Clarence of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Altheare Shaw and her husband, Fred of South Paris; seven grandchildren, Todd Lariviere, Eric Boucher, Cori (Boucher) Rockwood, Chris Fischer, Kayla Fischer, Jessica (Lariviere) Holcomb and Kevin Lariviere; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob and Evan Rockwood, Luke and Katelyn Holcomb, Brice Fischer, Elisabeth and Emilia Lariviere; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allen, on May 16, 2010; her beloved son, David, who died in 1995; and siblings, Frederick, Charles Jr., Dale and Lorraine (Sellars).

The family would like to thank the staff for the loving care given to Freda while living at the Rumford Community Home on the North Wing and to the Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice, who helped make Freda’s final days peaceful.
