MONMOUTH — Doris Carr Poole, 92, a lifelong resident of Monmouth, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, at her home with her loving daughter by her side.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1924, in Monmouth, the daughter of William C. Carr and Daisy Cram Carr (Berry). Doris graduated from Monmouth Academy in the Class of 1942. On Feb. 10, 1946, at the Monmouth United Church she married W. Andrew “Andy” Poole; he was her high school sweetheart and the love of her life.

Doris worked as a bookkeeper at Armor & Co. in Lewiston until 1950. She also worked at the State Budget Office in Augusta before going to Monmouth Academy in 1966 as an administrative secretary. She retired from Monmouth Academy in 1984. In 1985 she was appointed a trustee of Monmouth Academy, becoming Trustee Emeritus in 1999. In 1990, Doris was inducted into the Monmouth Academy Hall of Fame. She was the treasurer of Monmouth Academy Alumni Association for several years. She was a lifetime member of the Monmouth United Church. She served as treasurer for over 25 years and was also a member of the United Church Women’s Group. When the temple reorganized in 1952, Doris was the first Most Excellent Chief Phythian Sister. She was a former member of Boyton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Doris enjoyed being a member of the Sociable Eight Bridge Club, and the neighborhood craft group. Doris loved traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and crafts, but the greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons Mark Poole and his wife, Susan and Kent Poole and his wife, Cynthia; a daughter, Susan Bisson, and her husband, Roger, all of Monmouth; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Andy of 56 years; an infant son, Dana, who passed away in 1954; and a special grand dog, Buddy.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Androscoggin Hospice for their compassionate care, especially, Molly, Lisa, Amy, Angie and Michelle.
