SUMMERSIDE, PEI. — Frederick “Fred” Ripley, 75, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, PE., Canada, on Sunday, Nov. 26.

Born in Rumford, he was the son of the late James and Evangeline (Doiron) Ripley.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (McInnis) Ripley; his children, Jonathan (Robyn) Ripley, Littleton, Colo., and Leslie (Chesley) Chaisson, Miscouche, PEI.; grandchildren, Mason, Chase, Jack, Noah, Joseph and Ethan; sisters, Patricia “Pat” (Russ) Kelly and Janice (Duane) Nichols; a brother, David (Barbara) Ripley; sister-in-law, Lucy Ripley; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert “Bob” Ripley.

During his teaching career, Fred coached numerous school and community sports teams, including football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and hockey. After retiring from teaching, Fred worked with Coldwell Banker-Bradley Realty for a number of years. He always worked tirelessly for his clients looking after their interests.

He loved a good game of golf and was an avid fisherman and loved salmon fishing on the Miramichi River with his friends. Fred was always eager to volunteer in the community. He was a member of the Summerside Lions Club and actively participated in the club’s numerous community activities. He was also a fixture on the PEI Canada Games’ teams and was a longtime trainer for the Summerside Western Capitals junior hockey team.

In 2008, Fred and Josephine traveled abroad and spent five years in Doha, Qatar. His time there was spent sharing his teaching experience with young people and was instrumental in improving the Qatar Canadian School. Always a sports lover, he continued to enjoy his love of golf and enjoyed a weekly game with friends.
