WEST PARIS – Bail was set at $1,000 cash for a Norway woman who attempted to rob a gas station convenience store by hiding her finger under her shirt.

Paige Tuttle, 26, was arrested Friday on a felony robbery charge punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

According to an affidavit written by Lt. Justin Brown of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, a clerk at the Big Apple in West Paris called police to report that a woman had attempted to rob him.

He told Brown that the woman had threatened to shoot him if he didn’t open the store’s cash drawer and give her money.

The clerk wrote in his witness statement that when Tuttle told him, “I have a gun,” he responded, “No, you don’t.”

She cursed and left the store, Brown said.

The clerk told Brown that he noticed Tuttle had put her finger in the shape of a gun and held it under her sweater, which is why he didn’t believe her.

Brown wrote in his affidavit that he composed a photo lineup that included an image of Tuttle. The clerk identified Tuttle as the person who attempted to rob him.

A warrant was put out for Tuttle’s arrest, Brown wrote. She was later found and arrested in Norway.

Tuttle’s bail conditions include no use or possession of any alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, including marijuana; being subject to random search and testing without probable cause or suspicion; being barred from any Big Apple store; and having no contact with the victim of the crime.
