PARIS — A fire that started in the roof of an East Main Street business just after 4 p.m. Wednesday was quickly knocked down by the owner and the Paris Fire Department, said Norway Fire Chief Dennis Yates.

“The owner of the building said that the fire started in the roof,” Yates said. “He has two fire extinguishers, and he was actually able to get most of it knocked down by the time we arrived.”

Paris Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene, Yates said, adding that firefighters were able to “quickly knock down the rest of the fire.”

The blaze caused minor damage in the roof/attic area of the building, Yates said.

No one was injured.

Yates said that the business, Wicked Water Graphics, is owned by David Kelso, who recently moved from Madawaska and opened a store on East Main Street.

He said that an investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office would visit the building Thursday morning to investigate further.

“From what I can tell, there’s nothing really suspicious about the fire,” Yates said, “but the fire marshal will be here tomorrow to look into it more.”

Fire departments from Poland, Norway and West Paris also responded to the blaze.
