AUBURN — Just before the holiday break, 28 Auburn Middle School eighth graders from Bim Gibson’s social studies class went to Fairview Elementary School to teach a lesson to first graders.

The topic for the lesson was the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

The middle school students, in the fall, had an assignment to write children’s books that they could use to help teach the topics. The books helped the students show proficiency in meeting certain middle school social studies standards.

The students were broken into groups to teach in each of the four Fairview first grade classes.

The lessons were interactive and included lessons from their books, followed by activities created by the middle schoolers to foster understanding of the first graders.
