Recently, I received my Social Security award letter for the year 2018. To say I am unhappy would be a gross understatement.
Back in the year 2015, I received an increase bringing my monthly check to $954. There was no increase for 2016, but in 2017 people were to get a small increase. However, an increase in Part B wiped that out. Now, for 2018, people were to receive a 2 percent increase, which would be $21 dollars. Guess what — the Part B fee was raised $21, leaving me with no increase.
Four years now and no increase, yet many things have doubled or more in cost.
On Nov. 6, 2015, a bill was introduced by Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts to give a one-time increase of $70 a month to folks on Social Security. As far as I know, it never got out of committee. I never saw any Maine representatives in Washington supporting the bill.
Incidentally, all four of Maine’s Congressmen — two senators and two representatives — are multi-millionaires. How much will they now profit from the new tax law giving the rich the big break in taxes?
They speak of the tax law creating jobs and better benefits for workers — that has never happened. Who do they think they are kidding?
Once again, Maine’s elected officials in Washington, D.C., have turned their backs on Mainers.
Shameful.
