AVON, Conn. — Susan Maguire Mulready, 67, of Avon, Conn., died peacefully Jan. 8, 2018. Susan was the oldest child of six to the late Joseph and Marjorie (Darlington) Maguire of Foster, R.I. Born in Providence, R.I., Susan grew up on a farm in western Rhode Island, and was a 1968 graduate of Ponagansett High School in

Foster. She began college studies in fall of 1968, before starting a family with her husband of 48 years, Robert Mulready (Lewiston city administrator from 1990 to 2000).

While raising her three children and relocating several times, it took Susan 13 years to complete her bachelor’s degree in accounting, which she did in 1981 at St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. Susan held several positions over the years in the accounting field, but her most-rewarding job was as chief of staff for the education committee at the Connecticut General Assembly from 1984 to 1990. Her most recent profession was as a real estate appraiser.

Susan was a voracious reader and loved the beach, making many day trips with her children to the Rhode Island beaches, as well as family vacations on Cape Cod and in Florida. She also made two trips to Ireland, including one of her fondest memories — researching her father’s lineage in Bawnboy, County Cavan. She was also a passionate UConn sports fan.

She was known to be fiercely loyal to her family, and is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Chris Wallace, of Avon, Conn.; son Patrick and daughter-in-law Christine, of Glastonbury, Conn.; and son Brian and daughter-in-law Kerry, of Simsbury, Conn. Blessed with three children who lived locally, she especially enjoyed spending time with her 10 grandchildren: Audrey, Ali and Paige Wallace; and Devin, Sawyer, Eloise, Harrison, Cleo, Collins and Bailey Mulready.
