OCALA, Fla. — It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Richard James Hamel. Rick passed away Monday, Dec. 18, at the age of 58.

Rick was born in Lewiston and grew up in Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1978.

Rick was a loving and caring man who was always there to help his family and friends. He was charming and a fabulous family storyteller. He loved spending time with his family, building memories and capturing them in photos. He worked as a master irrigation technician in Ocala, Fla., where he lived for 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucien Hamel and Anita Couture; his sister, Pauline LaRose; and nephew, Robert Strait.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Angela Hamel; his daughter, Danielle Hamel; son, Zachary Hamel; as well as his sisters, Jo Ann McFarland (David), Doris Lynch (Julius) and Lorrie Hamel-Tarsky; his brothers, Lucien Hamel Jr. and Ronald Provencher; as well as many nephews and nieces.

He will be deeply missed by his entire family.
