FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 Director Ryan Morgan has resigned nearly a year after being elected to a three-year term.

Selectmen will be asked to shorten the time for filing nomination papers from 100 days to 10 days at their meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Town Office, Town Clerk Leanne Dickey said Wednesday.

If selectmen approve the change, nomination papers will become available Jan. 29 and must be filed by Feb. 8, Dickey said. That will allow time to put a name on the ballot for the March election, she said.

The director’s term ends in 2020.

The deadline for filing nomination papers for three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen and RSU 9 is 5 p.m. Jan. 26 to the Town Office, Dickey said.

No one has taken out papers for RSU 9 Director Iris Silverstein’s seat.

Selectman Matthew Smith has taken out papers but not returned them, Dickey said.

The election will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 26 at the Community Building. The annual town meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

NOTE: Story has been modified since it was first published to reflect the election will be held on March 26. It was a reporting error.
