OXFORD — Residents are reminded that a Special Town Meeting to act on a retail marijuana moratorium will be held tonight, Thursday, Jan. 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Oxford Elementary School, 79 Pleasant St.
The meeting has been set to allow voters to decide if they want to enact a 180-day moratorium on retail marijuana-related activities.
The town meeting was originally scheduled for January 4, but a blizzard that day caused its postponement.
If voters approve the moratorium, it will mean that during that 180-day period no application related to the establishment or operation of a business or operation of a retail marijuana establishment and/or retail marijuana social club can be accepted, processed or acted on for any approval. That would include a license, building permit, certificate of occupancy, site plan review, conditional use, or any other approval related to retail marijuana operation by the town of Oxford.
The moratorium would expire after 180 days, if an extension is not approved or a more permanent solution, such as an outright prohibition, is OK’d.
Voters will also be asked to approve an amendment to the town’s Sewer Ordinance so that interest on an overdue bill will be assessed after 30 days, instead of the current 120-day period.
