LEWISTON — Richard A. Fournier, 79, a resident of Main Street in Lewiston, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, at his home, in his loving wife’s arms, following a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on April 28, 1938, the son of Paul and Juliette (Morin) Fournier. Dick grew up in Lewiston and attended St. Dominic High School, where he was an avid hockey player. He then joined the United States Air Force and trained to become an air traffic controller and was also a French interpreter, until his honorable discharge.

Following his military service he joined the FAA as an air traffic controller until his retirement after 22 years of service.

Following retirement, he formed Dick Fournier Associates where he served as a financial adviser and tax preparer for his loyal clients. He was also a former treasurer of Androscoggin County government.

He was an avid dog lover and cherished their companionship throughout his entire life.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Lorraine Poulin, of Lewiston; one daughter, Michelle Ricard, and husband, Dave, of Jaffrey, N.H..; two sons, Mark Fournier and wife, Venise, of Carrabassett Valley, and Martin Fournier and wife, Nicole, of Turner; two brothers, Donald Fournier and wife, Lucille, of Poland, and Robert Fournier and wife, Debra, of Lewiston; two sisters, Claire Mick and husband, Don, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Priscille Fournier, of Auburn. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Norman Fournier; sister, Lorraine Cloutier; and nephew, James Fournier.
