Berry Hall, the dormitory at Leavitt institute, was burned this morning. The fire was discovered shortly after six o’clock by Mont Greenwood, who lives near by. Last Evening the pupils complained of the cold and Janitor William Hall built a hotter fire than usual, but banked the fire before leaving it for the night. This morning on his first visit to the boiler room about six o’clock he found everything as usual, but a few minutes later, after the alarm had been given, when he attempted to enter the room, he found it a seething mass of flames.

The cheering, chanting and flag waving at Wal-Mart’s grand opening Tuesday morning had a distinctive Southern flavor. Store Manager Don Jenkins, a South Carolina native, hosted the event and introduced his five managers and their families before the ribbon was cut by his own family. Many members of the planning and store opening team that were on hand for the occasion also carried strong accents indicating they were not New Englanders. But their Southern warmth spread through the crowd as some of the 250 sales associates gathered to chant Wal-Mart’s name, and sing “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” a Wal-Mart ditty.
