Valentine Tea, talk at public library

PHILLIPS — Reid Byers, president of the Shiretown Bookers, will present “The Design of the English Country House Library” at a Valentine Tea at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Phillips Public Library, 96 Main St.

Following the presentation, English Tea and refreshments will be served. The talk is free and open to the public. A chocolate bar exchange is optional: bring one/take one.

Honey Bee Club to hear speaker

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road. Speaker will be Carol Cottrill, master beekeeper.

She is a Master Beekeeper Exam Board member at EAS, secretary for EAS and past president of the Maine State Bee Association. Her topic will be “Beginner and Intermediate Beekeepers ‘Think Like a Bee.'”

Fiddlers to play for contra dance

FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Fiddlers will play for a contra dance Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Farmington Grange, 124 Bridge St.

From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. there will be a family dance; adults, $2, children, $1. From 8 to 10:30 p.m. John McIntire will call for the regular contra dance; adults, $6, students, $5, family max, $15.

Annual Blessing of the Sleds fundraiser

MEXICO — The 21st Blessing of the Sleds will take place at noon Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Mountain Valley Middle School, Highland Terrace.

Two snowmobile “buses” will be present for anyone who wants a ride. Frank Lowell of Newry, part owner of Western Maine Supply in Bethel, is bringing them to the blessing. Gary Chaisson will bring antique sleds as well.

The Mexico Bicentennial Committee will have a sculpture contest on the grounds, and “Fair Sausage,” hot dogs, burgers and French fries will be cooked outside. Those wishing may eat inside.

There will be a 50/50, raffles and an inside poker run, and the new “Blessing” sweatshirts will be on sale. Across the street, a ride-in will take place.

This is the major fundraiser for the Mexico and Dixfield snowmobile clubs.

Texas Hold’em poker tourney planned

LOCKE MILLS — Jackson-Silver Post 68 will have a Texas Hold’em poker tournament Saturday, Feb. 10, at 595 Gore Road.

Doors will  open 11 a.m., and games will begin at 1 p.m. The event will include a 50/50 and pull tabs. Meals and beverages available; players may bring their own beverage.
