AUBURN — A father and son accused of having tied up a Park Avenue homeowner and stolen her SUV and motorcycle in October were indicted Tuesday on charges of robbery, burglary and theft.
An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up indictments against John Michaud Sr., 50, of 494 Lincoln St., Lewiston and his son, John Michaud II, 19, of 75 University St. on eight identical counts. The younger Michaud also was charged with violating a condition of release.
The elder Michaud was returned from Illinois to Maine to face charges. He has been held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $10,000 cash bail. His son has been in Florida, facing charges there and awaiting extradition back to Maine.
Police used DNA evidence, confidential sources and store surveillance video to track down the father and son.
The men were found and charged nearly two months after they bound the woman with duct tape inside her home and then burglarized it, according to police. They also stole a motorcycle and SUV from the victim’s house.
Both men are charged with two counts of robbery, one a Class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, the other, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The men also face two counts of burglary, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Felony charges of theft by unauthorized taking and unauthorized use of property are punishable by up to five years in prison.
Misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and falsifying evidence carry maximum penalties of 364 days in jail.
