Just what is going on behind all the closely drawn store window curtains today is a matter of conjecture. And it will remain a deep mystery until tomorrow morning at ten-thirty, when the “Made In Lewiston-Auburn Week” will commence simultaneously in all the display windows in the two cities. Auburn Mayor Clyde E. Goudey said today he was sending best wishes via telegram to two Auburn skiers participating in the Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. Mayor Goudey said the wires would be sent to Johnny Bower and Tommy Upham. The telegrams read, “The citizens of Auburn are behind you 100 percent. The on-again, off-again Franco festival is on again after its organizers, the Knights of Columbus, announced Friday an agreement has been reached to hold the three-day cultural event indoors at the Central Maine Civic Center. Fern Cloutier, speaking on behalf of the 900-member Knights of Columbus Council 106, said the event, which has not been held in Lewiston for five years, will be resurrected on the weekend of Aug. 6 at the Birch Street arena. “It’s just wonderful,” Cloutier said Friday. “We’re pleased because we believe Lewiston needs this festival again.”
