PARIS — The Republican Caucus will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Paris Fire Department meeting room for 10 surrounding Oxford County towns. Doors will open at 8 a.m. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the caucus will begin at 9 a.m.

Pete Laverdiere, Oxford County state committeeman, said all registered Republicans and candidates for office are welcome. Tables will be arranged by town to allow each to select delegates and alternates to the GOP Convention to be held in Augusta the first weekend of May.

In addition to Paris, the towns of Oxford, Buckfield, Hartford, Hebron, Otisfield, Norway, Sumner, Waterford and Turner will meet at the 137 Western Ave. location. Republican caucuses are being held throughout the state.

Caucuses are held to allow voters to hear from candidates and make plans for the 2018 Republican State Convention and other upcoming elections.

Maine law requires that every political party hold caucuses, but according to the Maine Republican Party, Republican Party rules require that caucuses be held so that Republicans can participate at the state convention and, if necessary, select replacement candidates.
