SOUTH PARIS — The Norway and Oxford Republican caucuses will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the South Paris Fire Hall, 137 Western Ave.

“Every two years, town committees caucus to select delegates and alternates for the upcoming Republican Convention, Norway Chairman Peter Connell said. “Also, officers are elected for the town and the bylaws are reviewed and ratified.”

State Rep. Kathleen Dillingham of Oxford said most of the local candidates plan to attend, and she believes U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin will be there.

Pete Laverdiere, Oxford County state committeeman, said all registered Republicans and candidates for office are welcome. Tables will be arranged by town to allow each to select delegates and alternates to the GOP convention.

It will be held May 4 and 5 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Maine law requires that every political party hold caucuses, but according to the Maine Republican Party, party rules require that caucuses be held so Republicans can participate at the state convention and, if necessary, select replacement candidates.
