LEWISTON — Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St., has a number of special events coming up.

A Lenten series of Taize-style services will run Wednesdays from Feb. 21 through March 28. On each of these evenings from 6 to 6:30 p.m. the public is invited to join in a time of scripture readings, silent contemplation and singing in the style of the Taize, France religious community. Interfaith chaplain Pat Hunter Gardiner will lead the first two evenings. The Rev. Annie Baker-Streevy, Calvary’s pastor will lead the March services. All are welcome.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, Calvary’s monthly PB&J (Peanut Butter and Jesus) group will look at the story of Noah’s Ark. PB&J is a Saturday morning “Sunday school” for individuals of all ages and family groups. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The session runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Rev. Ruth Merriam will lead the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, Feb. 25. Merriam has done mission work in 10 countries, including Calcutta, India, where she worked with Mother Teresa. She is a retired UMC pastor and lives with her husband in Topsham. Her sermon will be “Which Wolf Are You Feeding?”
