LEWISTON — A local man whose electric wheelchair was stolen — and returned — last year is missing its battery, police said.

George Simmons, whose leg was amputated, keeps his wheelchair on the porch of his home. Without the battery, the wheelchair doesn’t work and he needs it to get around, he told police.

In September, while Simmons was hospitalized, someone took his wheelchair, which he had plugged in to recharge outside his home.

The person who took it had reportedly tried to sell it. The chair was later returned.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call the Lewiston Police Department.
