Golden Agers to note St. Patrick’s Day

AUBURN — The Immaculate Heart of Mary Golden Age Club will hold a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Tuesday, March 13, at Sacred Heart Church. A social hour will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch. Installation of officers and a business meeting will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.

A board meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m.

A traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served with cake for dessert. Cost is $6. Call 207-576-4082 for reservations by Sunday, March 11.

The club is for those age 50 plus. New members and guests are always welcome. If the weather is a snow/ice storm, the meeting will be canceled.

Pickwick Club to discuss Hartley book

AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s mainly Dickens reading and discussion group, will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Auburn Public Library.

The book for discussion will be “Dickens and the House of Fallen Women” by Jenny Hartley.

Auburn Art Club to hear talk on Ireland

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church, Park Avenue.

Chairwoman will be Joyce Campbell. She will be assisted by members of her committee: Mary Goss, Donna Manson, Marie Steele and Carole Woodward.

The guest speaker will be Nicki Frye, who will present a program focusing on Dublin, Ireland. Among sites being visited will be Trinity College, Phoenix Park, Guinness and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Rabbi to present musical program for educators

LEWISTON — The Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Green Ladle at Lewiston High School. The lunch menu will be chef’s choice. The cost of the meal is $11.

The program will be Klezmer music, a musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe, performed by Rabbi Sruli Dresdner.

Members are continuing to collect nonperishable food items and money to be donated to a local food pantry.

All educators are welcome. They need not have taught in Androscoggin County or in the state.

College planning workshops slated

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free workshops, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and older.

The workshops will be held at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, and Wednesday, April 4, at the Lewiston Career Center, 5 Mollison Way

Auburn Church collecting hygiene products 

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church is supporting the Center for Wisdom’s Women by helping supply hygiene products for the women that they serve.

Requested donations include shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, body wash, disposable razors, lotion, lip balm and feminine hygiene products.  

Donations can be dropped off at 439 Park Ave.

Pinochle, pitch players welcome

LEWISTON — Pinochle and pitch card games for seniors are played weekly through May at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

New players are always welcome. Pitch is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Pinochle is at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. Refresher courses are available in both categories.

The armory is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Players must become a member to participate.
